• Phishing Scams

Recently, a client received an email that looked like it came from a business associate. The link it contained took her to a page where she was prompted to enter her email credentials to retrieve a file. She realized something felt ‘fishy’ about it, and she was right. She called this person, who quickly let her know he had not sent her a link to a file. This is called phishing and it is incredibly common these days.

Phishing emails are created to mimic a sender you are familiar with, and then sent with links to get you to log into your email, or your Dropbox account, or even your bank account. However when you enter your username & password on the login page, they are saved and sent to the hacker, who can then do whatever they want with them. ALWAYS double-check with the source if you feel like an email isn’t legit! A quick phone call or text to them is the best way to verify, just in case their email address actually has been hacked.
